Our world is grieving. From East to West, from North to South, our Earth is enduring more painful interactions from the most powerful nations and once again war is ruling. The present leaders of the countries involved seem to avoid looking at the past cruelties allowing a repeat from WW I, WW II, the Vietnam, Middle East, and Korean battlefields; the list is endless. Power and greed continue to abolish human respect for all life: the men and women, the plant and animal kingdom, all endangered by the same motivation.
We are being played on all media levels. Our own emotional instabilities cloud a deeper understanding of this present moment, and the larger truths are drowned into oceans of falsehoods. Clarity is obliterated by an array of never-ending inventions of mass distraction. The choices we make are mostly based on the survival of the self, the family often the leading theme. The fact that the financial organizations are domineering our actions, and that marketing has hit our occiput area since at least a century is no longer overlooked by billions of citizens. But what will we do about it? Our empathy for the millions of immigrants, crossing our borders both in Europe and the USA, searching for a new life, has been greatly abused by governing leaders, indefinitely answering to a higher power, one the greater public has no official knowledge off. Before departure the airline crew explains how, in case of an emergency, to put on your mask before helping the child closest to you. The same priority counts for each country when the economy has proven to jeopardize the people who take on more than one, two or three jobs to make ends meet. The lives of the homeless, and amongst them countless veterans of war, belong to such urgency.
To quote a typical (over-used) politician’s opening phrase: “ let us be clear”; indeed, ladies and gentlemen of the House, the Senate, the Parliament, or any of the too many governing bodies, why don’t you become clear about your true intent and first start caring for the citizen who pay you salaries, abiding by the immigration laws you wrote without checking your own bank accounts first! There is much anger in the air, with equality and freedom of speech more side-tracked by the day, with an anger spilling quickly through the sewers of capitals and main cities everywhere. That all of our lives matter has now been re-designed by a prominent painter’s palette; a highly sponsored and wealthy private palette that is. The goal is obviously to confirm the ageless strategy: “to rule is to divide”! Maybe the world evolved in ways people in general prefer to avoid knowing the real truth and not the television news.
Of course, the level of “knowing”, the facilities exploded thanks to the extraordinary development of the technology maybe already fully backed up by A.I. It will remain an individual choice to want to know more or to be enamored with such intelligence that may well be taking over our minds. Books have never been overrated and reading will help us balance the hemispheres of our brain besides offering joy on the roads of discovery leading to adventures of historical proportions and ancient wisdom.
Many a suggestion will be to read the tiny letters on the produce one decides to purchase. Technology well used with all the servers on the internet, from Google to Startpage, show us within seconds the needed explanation for the ingredients of our meals, the toothpaste, or the crème to keep the wrinkles away. For the latter pure aloe vera is the plant every household will welcome, for more than the purpose of the better skin. We have been swimming in an ocean of emotion with staggering ships of war towards new canals, and there’s more to the Suez Canal and the project of building a new one up North of the neighboring country; the real reason for this new war and once again, thousands of victims and innocent souls?
It is in all of society’s interest to research (though as you read these lines you already committed to). Yet do exhausted parents get the time to check what the doctor just described for their kids that yearly flu, in a “flu season”? There’s actually a flu season, right? Like the four (or now five) seasons: spring, summer, fall, winter, and pharma-flu? Guess we need a few new emojis for the latter. And have you checked out the doctor’s background or do you just trust the medical faculties because of…?
We have voted for leaders we ought to trust. They are there to protect the citizen, not to destroy them, but to help them evolve no matter their color, their religion, their education. The subject of educating a nation starts at home where the housing, the jobs, and lives of the parents, even the kindergarten will set in motion either chapters of awareness through loving actions and learning tools or a torturous program of pain that too often leads to child-abuse.
While we are grieving, on all continents, for the millions of lost lives and vanished livelihood, we must, all of us humans, reevaluate our belief system, to, without bias, study, and search why the world around is indeed a reflection of whom we believe to be. There is so much beauty and solace to be found in a meditation on knowledge and wisdom; so many keys to be forged by none other than ourselves. The main key to our inner authenticity is but a brief echo to the symphony of our life. Even when we cannot play every instrument in the orchestra, we need to be the conductor of our choices and be a part of all creation we share.
(Diego Vélasquez’s masterpiece at the Madrid Prado Museum: “Apolo en la fragua de Vulcano”, Apollo in the Forge of Vulcan-or the symbolic ‘sponsor of the creation of the arts’ visiting the place where strength thru fire is forged with volcanic power or the constructive use of fire through metalworking)
